Introducing the QR-bill

What it's about
After the successful introduction of ISO 20022, the QR-bill marked the next decisive step in the harmonisation of Swiss payment transactions. The goal was to create a uniform, digital invoice format that replaces the seven different payment slips.

Challenge
The QR-bill was not only a technical change but also an important step towards digitalisation. Accordingly, the needs of very different target groups had to be taken into account: from digitally savvy companies and banks to private individuals who continue to handle their payments at the bank counter with paper. It had to be demonstrated that the QR-bill brings all the advantages of a digital solution while also supporting all established paper-based payment methods. For the rollout, CoRelation developed a cross-media information and awareness campaign that reached companies, financial institutions, software houses as well as interest representatives from business, politics and consumer protection alike. In close exchange with associations, authorities and consumer protection organisations, it was ensured that all interest groups were informed and involved at all times.
Result
Thanks to targeted and continuous communication, broad acceptance of the QR-bill was achieved. Companies, banks and consumers successfully adapted their processes. With its introduction in 2020, a uniform invoice standard was created that is now firmly established in Swiss payment transactions and forms the basis for future innovations.
